Technip Energies, ExxonMobil to develop world’s largest low-carbon hydrogen facility
Technip Energies won a contract award from ExxonMobil for front-end engineering and design (FEED) for the world’s largest low-carbon hydrogen production facility.
The low-carbon hydrogen, ammonia and carbon capture facility in Baytown, Texas, will produce 1 billion ft. of low-carbon hydrogen per day. It will also capture over 98% of related CO2 emissions, which is around 7 million metric tons per year.
Third-party CO2 emitters in the surrounding area will be able to use the carbon capture and storage (CCS) network to support their decarbonization efforts. According to Dan Ammann, President of ExxonMobil’s Low Carbon Solutions, the project will enable up to a “30% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by switching from natural gas as a fuel source to low-carbon hydrogen.”
ExxonMobil will pair the world’s largest low-carbon hydrogen facility with the largest olefins plant in the United States to deliver more sustainable, lower-emissions products for customers and society.
